The historic natural history museum inside Amsterdam's famous zoo opens its doors for a night of natural wonders, live science, and late-night discovery.

The ARTIS Groote Museum, housed in a stunning 19th-century building inside the ARTIS Royal Zoo, is one of Amsterdam's best-kept secrets. On Museum Night, the museum's vast collection of taxidermy, geological specimens, and scientific instruments is illuminated in a new way. Scientists and naturalists lead tours through the collection, sharing stories about the specimens and the explorers who collected them. A special programme for adults explores the science of bioluminescence, with live demonstrations of glowing organisms. The museum's iconic whale skeleton, suspended from the ceiling of the main hall, takes on an eerie beauty after dark.
