A beautifully restored 17th-century canal house dedicated to music history presents a night of live performances and historical discovery.
Museum Geelvinck is a beautifully restored 17th-century canal house on the Keizersgracht, dedicated to the history of music in Amsterdam. The museum's collection includes historic musical instruments, scores, portraits of musicians, and documents relating to Amsterdam's rich musical life from the Golden Age to the present. On Museum Night, the museum presents a programme of live music performed on historic instruments, including a fortepiano, a baroque violin, and a chamber organ. Musicologists lead tours of the collection, exploring the stories behind the instruments and the music they were used to create. The museum's garden is open for the first time after dark.
