Amsterdam's iconic green ship-shaped science museum opens for a night of experiments, demonstrations, and mind-bending science for adults.
NEMO Science Museum, housed in Renzo Piano's iconic green ship-shaped building rising above the IJ tunnel, is usually a museum for children — but on Museum Night, it transforms into a playground for adults. The museum's hands-on exhibitions on physics, chemistry, biology, and technology are all open, with scientists on hand to explain the principles behind the experiments. A special adults-only programme includes a talk on quantum computing, a demonstration of high-voltage electricity, and a guided tour of the museum's rooftop, which offers one of the best panoramic views of Amsterdam. The museum's famous water square on the roof is illuminated after dark.
