Journey through ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Near East in the atmospheric vaults of Amsterdam's premier archaeological museum.
The Allard Pierson is the archaeological museum of the University of Amsterdam, housing a remarkable collection of objects from ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome, Etruria, Cyprus, and the Near East. On Museum Night, the museum's atmospheric vaulted galleries are lit with warm amber light, making the ancient artefacts glow as if freshly unearthed. Archaeologists and Egyptologists lead tours through the collection, sharing the stories of the objects and the civilisations that created them. A special programme explores the role of women in ancient societies, drawing on objects from the collection that are rarely discussed in mainstream narratives.
