The world's only museum dedicated entirely to the tulip explores the flower's remarkable journey from the Ottoman Empire to Dutch Golden Age mania.
The Amsterdam Tulip Museum tells the extraordinary story of the tulip — how it travelled from the Ottoman Empire to the Netherlands in the 16th century, sparked the world's first speculative financial bubble (Tulip Mania of 1637), and became the symbol of Dutch identity that it remains today. On Museum Night, the museum presents a special programme exploring the cultural history of the tulip, including a talk on the science of tulip breeding, a demonstration of traditional Dutch flower arranging, and a screening of a short documentary about the modern Dutch flower industry. The museum's shop, stocked with tulip bulbs and related products, is open all evening.
