One of Amsterdam's grandest canal houses opens its doors for a night of history, art, and the intimate stories of the families who lived here for 350 years.
Museum Van Loon is one of Amsterdam's finest canal houses, built in 1672 and home to the Van Loon family from 1884 until the present day. The house contains a remarkable collection of family portraits, furniture, silverware, and decorative arts spanning three centuries. On Museum Night, the house is open for candlelit tours led by members of the Van Loon family themselves, who share personal stories about the objects and the people who owned them. The museum's formal garden, one of the few remaining examples of a 17th-century Amsterdam garden, is illuminated and open for the first time after dark.
