Four historic synagogues in the heart of Amsterdam's former Jewish Quarter tell the story of Jewish life, culture, and resilience across four centuries.
The Jewish Historical Museum occupies four historic Ashkenazi synagogues in the heart of Amsterdam's former Jewish Quarter. On Museum Night, the museum presents a programme that celebrates the richness and diversity of Jewish cultural life in the Netherlands, from the Golden Age to the present day. A klezmer band performs in the Great Synagogue, while guided tours explore the museum's collection of religious objects, art, and documents. A special exhibition focuses on the stories of Sephardic Jews who came to Amsterdam from Portugal and Spain in the 16th and 17th centuries, bringing with them a rich cultural heritage that shaped the city.
