Museum Tot Zover

The museum about death and dying

Amsterdam's unique museum about death becomes even more atmospheric after dark. Explore how different cultures around the world deal with mortality.

Museum Tot Zover — which translates roughly as 'Museum So Far' — is dedicated to death, dying, and what comes after. On Museum Night, the museum embraces its unique character with a programme that is simultaneously thought-provoking and strangely comforting. Guided tours explore funeral traditions from Mexico's Día de los Muertos to Japanese Buddhist ceremonies, while a special installation in the garden invites visitors to write messages to loved ones who have passed. A local spoken-word artist performs a set of poems about grief, loss, and memory in the candlelit main hall.
